Housing Needs Assessment 2011

Every three years, in accordance with Section 9 of the Housing Act 1988, housing authorities are required  to undertake an assessment of housing need in their functional areas.

The Housing [Miscellaneous Provisions] Act, 2009 provides for a new process of housing assessment with effect from 1st April, 2011. This Assessment of Housing Need gives a national picture of the level of housing need across the country as these new regulations come into effect.

Detailed guidance was issued by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to assist authorities in carrying out the assessment and in order to ensure as much consistency as possible across authorities. This was to be a ‘snap-shotassessment based on an extract of data from each housing authority in respect of each household that has been approved for social housing support at 31st March, 2011.
