Title: BIO-NEIGHBOUR – Towards greener, more diverse neighbourhoods
Overview: Investors, policy and regulatory changes are increasingly encouraging developers to incorporate green infrastructure and features to enhance biodiversity into new housing developments. However, this is not yet happening at scale. Despite the emergence of several guidance documents and training programmes for industry, the scale-out of nature-led solutions to all new housing developments is slow.
Therefore, this research seeks to answer the question:
What key actions are required to ensure existing solutions for incorporating green infrastructure and enhancing biodiversity in new housing developments are scaled up to become the new norm, and ensure the 500,000 homes planned for Ireland by 2040 become part of thriving, sustainable communities that support biodiversity?
This research will result in a comprehensive set of recommendations to ensure enhancing biodiversity becomes mainstreamed in new housing developments.
