Title:  Pathways towards stable housing for parents and children exiting residential services

Overview:

This project explores the extent and implications of the lack of housing options available to infants, children and parents exiting tertiary services. Research based on the Bessborough Centre, Cork, offers a multidisciplinary assessment of parenting capacity within a residential setting.

This research will document the current housing policy position, at local and national level, for parents and infants exiting tertiary services for families; investigate the implications of the lack of housing options for infants, children and parents exiting residential settings; identify a viable and practical model for successful transition from residential services to living in the community; and evaluate the economic feasibility to provide pathways to more stable accommodation for those exiting tertiary services for families.

Building on the framework of Housing for All, this research will shape the work of NGOs, Community Voluntary Organisations, local authorities and statutory agencies, such as the HSE, by building capacity and shared expertise on the needs of, and supports for, infants, children, and parents transitioning from residential services to living in the community.
